Alexander Zverev is not having a successful start of the season mainly because of the incident he made at the ATP Acapulco.

The 24-year-old is currently third in the ATP rankings with a 14-5 record and this will be his first match on clay this season.

Zverev, who won 6 titles in 2021, is coming of a quarterfinal loss to Casper Ruud in Miami in three sets after he defeated Thanasi Kokkinakis, Macenzie McDonald and Marin Cilic in the previous rounds.

In Indian Wells, Zverev was stunned in the opening round losing to Tommy Paul by 6-2, 4-6, 7-6.

Zverev’s only final match in this season came in Montpellier where he lost 6-4, 6-3 to Alexander Bublik.

In the first Grand Slam of the season, the German lost in the fourth round to Dennis Shapovalov in straight sets after going past Radu Albot, John Millman and Daniel Almaier without dropping a set.

Federico Delbonis is currently 34th in the ATP rankings and his career-best has been one spot higher.

The Argentinian is 7-10 for the season including 5-5 on clay court.

Delbonis defeated Jaime Munar in the opening round in Monte Carlo by 6-4, 3-6 and 6-4.

He lost the previous five matches exiting four consecutive tournaments in the opening round.

In Buenos Aires, Delbonis made it to the semifinals where he lost to Casper Rudd after defeating Fabio Fognini, Pablo Andujar and Juan Martin Del Potro previously.

Alexander Zverev is an absolute favorite to win this one even though the odds are too low as Delbonis is a good player on clay court and has a lot of experience. The Argentinian has a negative record for the season losing 4 straight games before coming to Monte Carlo. Still, he is a much better player than what that record shows. He has a strong serve and knows how to play on the net. He is a lefty and Zverev may have problems with that. In the previous two matches between these two, Delbonis managed to take one set in each match to the tie-break and that can be expected today as well. Therefore placing a bet on over 19.5 games is a pretty good deal.
