At the Australian Open, Paul was eliminated in the second round to Miomir Kecmanovic in straight sets forcing two tie-breaks in the match. In the opening round, he defeated Mikhail Kukushkin.

Previously, Paul participated in both tournaments in Adelaide losing in the third round to Marin Cilic and Gael Monfils.
