Details:
Liverpool is in a bad period. Perhaps Klopp's weakest period since the German took over Liverpool. Has not won in five PL matches in a row and has not scored a single PL goal in the last four. It is bad.
The teams met exactly one week ago at Anfield in the Premier League. The match ended 0-0. Great dominance of Liverpool in terms of ball. Not very clear goal chances. United probably had a couple of hotter chances, but rarely came over halfway. Played mostly defensively and waited for counterattacks which did not work either. Rashford ran la offensive 7-8 times or something.
Liverpool is in a minor crisis. Five straight league games without a win is not good enough. Against Burnley, Klopp chose to rest players like Salah and Firmino from the start while Henderson was not even in the squad due to a muscle problem. Origi and Oxlade-Chamberlain hardly took the chance to shine, among other things, the Belgian missed a free kick in the first half. It finally ended 0-1 after a penalty goal by Barnes, Liverpool's first home loss in the league since April 2017!
Now Liverpool will have a day shorter rest for this match than United and on Thursday a much more difficult task awaits than what Sunday's fighters have this week when The Reds face Tottenham away. At the same time, there is enormous prestige between these clubs and I hardly think Klopp will wash a cup match against Manchester United.
The fact that Salah and Firmino started on the bench against Burnley indicates that they will start here. I still think Liverpool are a better team than Manchester United, but at the moment it does not work for the guests, especially not going forward. Liverpool have not scored a single goal in their last four in the league and Salah looks to be completely drained of confidence. Four of the last five times the teams have faced each other at Old Trafford, it has ended in a draw and I think we can see an extension here. Should it be guarded with any sign, it is with one as Liverpool have not won here in almost seven years.
