Not many expected Cagliari to start the new Serie A season this poorly even though they fought to remain in the elite until literally the last round last season.

Unfortunately for the Sardinians, they have won only two points after six rounds this season standing in 19th place on the table.

In the last round, Walter Mazzarri’s squad lost 2-0 at Napoli. The 59-year old coach took over Cagliari this summer but has yet failed to win this season making this game highly important for his future with the team.

Venezia returned to Serie A this season but after six rounds it seems like they are on their way back to the second division. They have only one win and one draw after six rounds and only Cagliari and Salernitana have fewer points so far.

The good news for Venezia is that they played a solid match in the last round against Turin 1-1 and previously defeated Empoli.

Cagliari hasn’t scored in the last two rounds and is expected to finally do so at home against one of the worst teams in the league. They are clearly the better team on paper but will have to prove that on the pitch.

Both teams are facing injury issues prior to the game.

Damir Ceter Valencia, Paolo Farago, Riccardo Ladinetti and Marko Rog are out for Cagliari while the Brazilians Henrique Dalbert and Diego Farias are game-time decisions.
