Baltimore took two out of three against Kansas City to open up the last half on a high note, but the Orioles could have some problems with Tampa Bay during this matchup on Monday. The Rays are an ideal 6-0 against the O’s this season and five of these six wins are by multiple runs.
Tampa Bay has outscored Baltimore 48-21 in those six games, and Ryan Yarbrough has posted quality starts in both of his outings against the Orioles. Yarbrough is 4-1 with a 3.35 ERA in his career against Baltimore and he should be pitching with some confidence during this game.
Spenser Watkins will take the mound for the Orioles, and this may be just his third career major league start—and his first on the road. While he has allowed just one run in each of his two previous starts and sports a 1.74 ERA through 10.1 innings, he might be due for a few regression as he posted a 3.58 ERA with Triple-A Norfolk before getting called up.
He has as many walks as he does strikeouts (six), and therefore the bullpen behind him has not been good. Baltimore’s bullpen ERA of 6.75 is that the highest altogether of baseball, and that they have really struggled to limit the damage from opposing hitters all season.
The Rays have an enormous advantage when it involves the bullpen, and given their previous success against the Orioles this season, back Tampa Bay on the -1.5 run line.
