Details:
In a matchup between a team from the bottom and from the top of their conference, the Arizona Coyotes are hosting the Florida Panthers in Gila River Arena in Glendale.
The Arizona Coyotes are having a season to forget as they are at the bottom of the Western Conference with a 5-18-2 record which brings them only 12 points, eight less than the Seattle Kraken that is in front of them.
After starting the season with 11 straight losses, the Coyotes have shown a glimpse of good hockey but currently, they are on a three-game losing streak with all of those coming with at least three goals difference.
In their last game, the Coyotes failed 4-1 against the Dallas Stars even though they kept the pace during the first two periods.
Shayne Gostisbehere scored Arizona's only goal, and goalie Scott Wedgewood had 23 saves.
The Coyotes have gone 2-7-1 in home games. Clayton Keller leads the Coyotes with six goals, adding 11 assists and recording 17 points.
With three wins in their last four games, the Florida Panthers are back at the top of the Eastern Conference standings with a 17-4-4 record.
They split the last two games against the St. Louis Blues, winning the first one 4-3 after a shootout and losing the last one with the same score 53 seconds into the overtime.
Jonathan Huberdeau, Aleksander Barkov and Brandon Montour scored for the Panthers, while Maxim Mamin and Carter Verhaeghe each had two assists. Spencer Knight made 26 saves as Florida had its three-game winning streak snapped.
Huberdeau currently ranks sixth in the NHL with 30 points, scoring nine goals and recording 21 assists.
The Panthers have gone 3-3-4 away from home. Florida is eighth in the NHL with 36.8 shots per game and is averaging 3.8 goals.
Key facts
- The Florida Panthers have won six of the last ten games against the Arizona Coyotes including the last two
- Five of their last six matchups have gone over 5.5 goals
- Jay Beagle, Carter Hutton, Dmitrij Jaskin, Johan Larsson, Nick Schmaltz and Conor Timmins are all out for Arizona
- Noel Acciari, Anthony Duclair, Mason Marchment and Markus Nutivaara will not suit up for the Panthers
Anything but Florida’s win tonight would be a major upset. Florida is clearly the better team and will not afford to lose the top seed in the East in a game against the last-placed team in the West. A Panthers’ win of at least two goals difference is a winning bet tonight.
