The Boston Celtics have picked up their form lately which guarantees an interesting game when they host the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday night. This game will square off two of the best scorers in the league as Celtics’ Jason Tatum ranks eighth in the NBA averaging 25.7 points per game and Nets’ Kevin Durant is first in the league averaging 28.5 points per game.
The Celtics are on a three-game winning streak which put them second in the Atlantic Division and seventh in the Eastern Conference.
They started the season pretty badly with the new coach Ime Udoka losing five of the first seven games. Just when things started to look better, Jaylen Brown got injured which was a huge setback for the ‘Greens’.
Recently, the Celtics have defeated the Lakers, Thunder and Rockets at home but the real test will be the showdown against the Nets.
In the last 108-90 win over the Rockets, Jayson Tatum scored 30 points, Jaylen Brown had 19 in his return from missing eight games with an injury sending the Rockets to their 15th straight loss.
Dennis Schroder who went back to be Celtics’ sixth man scored 18 points, while Al Horford had 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Celtics are 6-7 against Eastern Conference opponents. Boston is sixth in the Eastern Conference scoring 108.3 points while shooting 44.4% from the field. Tatum is averaging 26.9 points over the last 10 games for Boston while starting center Robert Williams III is near a double-double average since he is at 9.4 points, 9.6 rebounds per game.
After a three-game winning streak against weak opponents, the Nets are back at the top of the Eastern Conference with a 13-5 record.
Steve Nash’s team has lost only twice in their last 13 games and are ready to continue their winning streak in Boston.
The Nets are 2-0 against the rest of the division. Brooklyn leads the league in 3-point percentage, shooting 37.6% as a team from deep this season. Kessler Edwards leads them shooting 50.0% from 3-point range. Pat Mills is also brilliant from deep averaging 3 three-pointers per game on 48.6%.
In their last game, the Nets defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers on the road 117-112.
Kevin Durant returned to the lineup after missing one game and scoring 27 points. James Harden added 14 points and a season-high 14 assists, and Cam Thomas gave Brooklyn a needed second-half lift becoming a reliable role player after coming from the G League.
LaMarcus Aldridge had another great night adding 21 points and 11 rebounds off the bench.
Key facts
- Both teams have won 4 of their last 5 games
- The Nets have won 7 of the last 9 over the Celtics
- Joe Harris, Nicolas Claxton, Bruce Brown and Kyrie Irving are out for the Nets
The Celtics have picked up their form lately but the game against the Nets will show if they can be a real contender this year. There is no question that Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown are having All-Star season but the rest of the group is what makes the difference between winning and losing.
The Brooklyn on the other hand, are playing great despite the fact that Kyrie Irving still hasn’t played a single minute this season. James Harden’s form is something that coach Nash is worried about but the former NBA leading scorer is improving.
The Nets are on a successful run in the last three weeks and they will show that they are the best team in the East against Boston. Kevin Durant will go over 30 again and that will be enough for Nets victory.
