Details:

The Pittsburgh Penguins have lost only twice in their last 15 games and are currently fourth in the Metropolitan Division and seventh in the Eastern Conference with a 23-10-5 record.

The Penguins are coming back home after a six-game road trip that finished 4-2-0.

They are coming off a 5-3 win over the Vegas Golden Knights. Jason Zucker scored twice and the Pittsburgh Penguins rallied from an early three-goal deficit. Teddy Blueger, Jake Guentzel and Sidney Crosby also scored for the Penguins, and Tristan Jarry made 22 saves.

The Penguins are 12-6-1 in conference play. Pittsburgh serves 6.6 penalty minutes per game, the least in the Eastern Conference. Marcus Pettersson leads them averaging 0.7.

Jake Guentzel leads the Penguins with 20 goals, adding 18 assists and recording 38 points. Kris Letang has 13 assists over the last 10 games for Pittsburgh.

The Ottawa Senators had major difficulties during the season with the majority of their roster being sidelined due to health and safety protocols. They are currently seventh in the Atlantic Division and 15th in the Eastern Conference with an 11-19-2 but have played as many as nine games less compared to their conference opponents.

The Senators have played only four games in 2022 with the last one being a 3-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres. Drake Batherson had the lone goal for Ottawa, and Anton Forsberg stopped 30 shots.

This was Ottawa's first home game since December 11 and was played without fans because of Covid-19 regulations.

The Senators are 6-9-1 in conference games. Ottawa is last in the NHL shooting 29.1 shots per game.

Drake Batherson leads the Senators with 20 total assists and has 31 points. Josh Norris has six goals over the last 10 games for Ottawa.

Key facts

  • Zachary Aston-Reese and Danton Heinen will not suit up for the Penguins
  • Dillon Heatherington, Nikita Zaitsev and Anton Forsberg are all out for the Senators
  • In their last meeting on Novеmber 13, 2021, Ottawa won 6-3
  • The Penguins have won seven of the last ten over the Senators

It is tough to evaluate the Senators’ form since they have played very few games. They are definitely better than the standings shows but not good enough to avoid loss when they visit Pittsburgh. The Penguins have been the best NHL team in the past month and will take care of business easily on Thursday night.
