Details:
Both Raptors and Mavericks have started the season with double-digit losses and miserable field goal percentage but the Raptors have bounced back in their second match of the season as the same is expected from the Mavs.
The Raptors lost at home to the Washington Wizards 98-83 in the season opener but surprisingly won in Boston 115-83.
Kyle Lowry left for the Miami Heat in the offseason leaving the team to the youngsters. To make things even worse for Nick Nurse’s team, Pascal Siakam is still recovering after the surgery to repair the torn labrum in his left shoulder.
The shorthanded Raptors shot only 30.9% from the field and 20.6% from the three-point line in the opening game with Fred VanVleet and rookie Scottie Barnes leading the way with 12 points.
Things looked much better on Friday night against the Celtics when the Raptors were at 42% from the field and all five starters scored in double-digits. Scottie Barnes was excellent with 25 points and 13 rebounds followed by Gary Trent Jr. with 20.
The Dallas Mavericks suffered a tough loss in Atlanta 113-87 in the opening night. The Mavs shot only 33.3% from the field and 30.2% from behind the arc. Luka Doncic had 18 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists which are low for his standards. Rick Brunson had a good role off the bench scoring 17. Tim Hardaway Jr. finished with 14 while Kristaps Porzingis with 11.
Key facts
- The home team has won in each of the last four head-to-heads
- The Raptors will be without their highest-paid player Pascal Siakam
- It’s been three days since the Mavs played their last game while the Raptors will play back-to-back
- Luka Doncic is averaging 23.6 points in his last 5 games against the Raptors
The Mavs are the better of the two teams simply because they have the unstoppable star in Luka Doncic, and even more, they have better players in each position. The Slovenian guard is entering this season with MVP ambitions and will not allow a 0-2 start for his team. Another reason to put your money on Dallas is that they are coming off a three-day rest while the Raptors played in Boston last night.
