The Adelaide Football Club, commonly known as the “Crows” is one of the youngest teams in the AFL as it was founded only thirty years ago, in 1990. Their signature colors are Navy Blue, Red and Gold.
Since its foundation, the team has won two premierships. Curiously enough, they were consecutive victories in 1997 and 1998. Moreover, they have made fifteen appearances in the final series.
Leaving the senior men’s team aside for a while, it’s also worth nothing that the women’s team is the most remarkable team in the AFLW and also the only one to have won multiple premierships overtime, the first time being in 2017 and the second in 2019.
During the -21 season, Geelong has maintained themselves in the top 8 teams with a score of 97.6, being the seventh best team overall. Their only lost match was against Adelaide, which happened on March 20.
The team was founded in 1990 after the AFL was established. After Port Adelaide’s entrance to the league in the same year, the other option left for another team to enter the league was to establish a new one. That way, the Adelaide Crows finally entered their first AFL season in 1991.
Since its foundation, Adelaide has had an excellent performance –even during those seasons where they didn’t make it to the finals. Still, the team didn’t make it to the grand final until 1993, year where they lose to Essendon in the preliminaries.
Four years later, the Crows won their first premiership in the 1997 Grand Final against St Kilda. Their score in this game was 19.11 (125).
The team retained some of that glory the following year, as they won the premiership once more during the 1998 Grand Final against North Melbourne. Their score this time was a bit lower than the previous, only scoring 15.15 (105).
However, during the following years, not everything was as bright during those two years of glory, especially during the 2010s. During the first season of the decade, they had one of the worst starts as they lost six matches (including the home and the away seasons simultaneously).
The crows went through multiple changes and tragedies during the beginning of the decade, although the team began to improve its performance starting from 2012. The following years were similar, especially in 2015 after coach Phil Wash was killed by his son.
Starting from the second half of the decade, the Crows managed to retain some of the performance despite the amount of problems they were going through during the said decade.
Although they didn’t have a great start in the 2020 after Matthew Nicks became the team’s new coach, the team has maintained itself noteworthy in the present season and made it to the finals as the 8th best club in the season.
Their next match is against North Melbourne, which will happen on Sunday April 11. Their only loss this season was against Sydney.
