The Bundesliga’s latest season - 2020-21 has been active since mid-September of 2020, and is still ongoing. The grand finale is scheduled to happen next 22 May, and then it’ll go through a four-month hiatus until August so the next season can begin.

This is the most important football league in Germany, and one of the best worldwide. The Bundesliga was founded in 1962, at Dortmund. The first season was played a year later, in 1963. Since then, the structure and organization have changed considerably.

Ten years after the creation of the league, the German football achieved greater results that made them notable to the rest of the world. Germany was the champion of Europe two times in the latest millennium, first in 1972 and then in 1980. The country won the World Cup in 1974.

  • The Bayern Munich is the team with the most championships so far. Until now, they have earned 27 championships since the league’s foundation.
  • Followed by the Bayern Munich, there is the Borussia Dortmun with eight premierships, and Hamburgo with six.
  • Since 2006, the Bundesliga games always take place throughout the weekend. One match takes place during the Friday, other six at Saturday, and other two during the Sunday.
  • The champion of the league will enter directly to the UEFA Champions League, along with the second, third and fourth places. The fifth and sixth places will participate in the Europe League.
  • According to the UEFA, the Bundesliga is the third most important football championship worldwide. The first two are Spain with La Liga and England with the EPL. Both nations have the first and the second place, respectively.

This season has everything a fan could ever ask for. But how has it been playing so far?

It is important to note that this season has been hugely affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Due to that, each team will have access to five substitutes. This new rule was implemented at the start of the season, and has been extended to this year as the war against the coronavirus is not over yet.

In the beginning, fans were not allowed to attend the matches. However, the prohibition as slowly revoked, especially in the Leipzig and Berlin areas.

Classifications

As of now, this is how the table of positions look like in the Bundesleague:

In first place, we have the Bayern Munich. The team has played thirty matches, and has weon 22 of them. It has only lost three games and five matches have resulted in a draw. All of this for a total of 71 points, which makes them the top team of the season and grants them a place during the next Champions League.

The next three teams are RB Leipzig, VfL Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt. Each team has a total punctuation of 61, 57 and 56, respectively.

The Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen have the 5th and 6th place of the league, Each team has a punctuation of 52 and 47 points, respectively. This grants them a place at the Europa League.

More problems

It was announced on April 22 of 2021 that the Bundesliga declared itself in quarantine once again. There were coronavirus outbreaks within the German football teams, and this was taken as a preventive measurement not to suffer another delay or reschedule, as it has been happening all over Europe since last year.

Specific health procedures were taken to assure the well-being of the players and staff.
