This competition is officially known as the Campeonato Nacional de Liga de Primera División. It is the most important football competition of Spain, and has been around since 1929, more than ninety years ago.
The current champion of this league is the Real Madrid C. F., which have taken 34 titles since the league’s foundation. Their long time rivals, the F. C. Barcelona. Throughout the league’s history, it has suffered only two interruptions – the first time being between 1936 and 1939 due to the events of the Spanish Civil War.
This year’s La Liga will take place between February and May. There will be two groups of 14 teams, and then the eliminatory phase since the quarter finals. It will finish just one month before the Copa América starts, which was also postponed due to the ongoing COVID-29 pandemic.
